Friday Faves: Strong Workout Tracker

I’ve been working out at Gold’s Gym for over four years now. I started with a trainer, who I loved, but then she moved and after a while working together virtually I decided to go it on my own. This meant finding a new app for planning and tracking my workouts. I tried several things and decided ultimately on the Strong app. I started with the free version which is decent, but pretty quickly decided to upgrade to the PRO subscription for only $30 per year.

There are a lot of things I like about this app. I can build my own personalized workouts, or I can use the templates that are included. I have found that if I don’t walk into the gym with a plan I will waste time and not challenge myself with a thorough workout. For now I have six plans that I rotate through based on what I’ve done recently and what I feel like. The “core and butt” hasn’t been visited in a while. The last time I did that I tweaked an old back injury and ended up recovering from that for 3 months. No fun!

There are a ton of exercises in the library, all of which include a video and written explanation so that you can avoid injury caused by doing something incorrectly. If there’s something you’re looking for that is not on the list, you can easily add it. However, it will not have a video. You can sort exercises by targeted body part or by type of equipment. I’ve really been loving the cables lately so that’s a great feature to help me easily locate the options for the cable machines. The free version of the Strong app allows you to have 3 customized templates at a time.

You’re also able to record an on-the-fly workout if you want to go rogue instead of following a predetermined plan. Just press “Start Workout” and you’re off. I love that it records the weights and reps done previously. Because I can’t remember what weight I did last time. This also allows me to track progress which is a big encouragement!

Give Strong a try and I’ll see you at the gym!!
